We’re going back to the Dominican Republic in 2019
While we are really disappointed not to be able to go back to Honduras again this year, we were totally excited at the prospect of returning to Hogar de Niñas María Madre de Dios in Bonao, Monseñor Noel province, Dominican Republic. We visited for the first time in 2013 when our trip to Honduras was cancelled because of security concerns and we returned last year, and both times we had a great trip! Hogar de Niñas is home to 39-70 girls whose ages range from 4 to 22. The last six years we got to know the girls and painted inside and out in addition to organizing English and computer classes for the girls, building a playground, covering the basketball court, and countless other tasks, under the supervision of (paid) local contractors.
In 2019 we did a little more painting (outside of two of the buildings, three bedrooms/dormitories, and an internal corridor), mixed and laid cement along the bottom half of the driveway to the dining hall, and painted the swings, slides, and climbing frames in the playground. We also interacted with the girls after work. Watch this space for details about the 2020 trip!
Check out the video from the 2015 trip and see FaceBook for more pictures — please visit and like us there! (See pictures and video from 2014 here)
Just think of us as DominicanRepublic/Honduras Project and we are still DHP. . .

MORE ABOUT THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Bonao is in the center of the country, about an hour from the major airports. We will be staying in a small hotel on the edge of town close to the childen’s home, and eating lunch and dinner with the children.
